• Making the most of our energy through Schneider Energy Action Award-winning software

Business colleagues looking at blueprint

Our mission is to help our clients make the most of their energy. We are passionate about energy management and want to demonstrate that passion to our clients. Through an internal energy efficiency program called Schneider Energy Action (SEA), we “walk the talk” by implementing our own solutions to continuously monitor and track energy consumption in our own facilities.

Since its inception in 2004, SEA has allowed us to reduce our energy consumption by 15 percent and prove just how committed we are to energy management. Now we’re setting the bar even higher. SEA aims to continuously reduce electricity, gas, andoil consumption and raise employee awareness of efficiency initiatives.

Goals to meet by 2014 include:

  • Achieve an additional 10 percent energy reduction
  • Ensure all commercial buildings consume less than 50 kWh/m²/year
  • Have 20 sites ISO 50001 certified

How? Through a lasting partnership
Two Schneider Electric organizations—Professional Services and Global Supply Chain (GSC)—signed a global service contract to position the program to achieve these goals. GSC is the customer and Professional Services the supplier, providing support, energy monitoring, and site assessments. Prior to this partnership, our biggest challenge was achieving global, consolidated views on energy and conservation initiatives across the company.

StruxureWare software enables efficiency, visibility
The implementation of Energy Operation and Resource Advisor, two key platforms of our StruxureWare™ software applications and suites, has solved this problem. Energy Operation provides real‐time data on energy usage to on‐site energy managers. At an enterprise level, Resource Advisor provides customized reports, cost and usage metrics, market‐specific intelligence, carbon footprint reporting, and project tracking.

Annette Clayton, Executive Vice President of Global Supply Chain, cites improved business efficiency: “We’re able to anticipate our energy usages needs, anticipate energy cost increases, re‐negotiate energy contracts, and make decisions faster based on the recommendations from Resource Advisor. Our synergies are improved through collective sharing as a team around the globe.”

Q&A with Jean Yves Blanc, Senior Vice President, Schneider Energy Action

Q: How does SEA contribute to the bottom line?

A: Since 2004, SEA has saved Schneider Electric $26 million. Based on figures audited by Ernst & Young, SEA has resulted in six per cent savings in 2012, which goes a long way with an annual energy invoice of over $132 million.

Q: Who benefits from SEA?
A: Global Supply Chain benefits from millions saved in the cost of doing business. Sales can use our own sites as showcases of our capabilities and to show demos of our solutions. And our employees now experience efficiency first hand, which instills pride in working for an environmentally-conscious corporation.

Q: What makes this program unique?
A: We can provide tangible proof points to our clients that we really do walk the energy management talk. Just ask pharmaceutical giant Sanofi, who recently signed a collaboration agreement with us to accelerate its energy efficiency program at industrial sites in 40 countries. With more than 30 years experience in international business, Mr. Blanc has a diploma in Electrical Engineering from Supélec Graduate School of Engineering as well as an MBA from Institut Français de Gestion in France. He is also the President of the European Buildings Automation & Controls Association.
