Ranked the top local bank in Korea,1 Busan Bank is a financial services organization with annual sales of 3.1 trillion KRW ($3 billion) in 2013, and two overseas branch offices in China and Vietnam. As a provider of highly available and efficient financial IT services, the most pressing challenge Busan Bank faced was monitoring and managing its mission-critical data center. Disparate groups of users from IT and facilities were managing and maintaining data center assets, capacity, and space with different tools. Moreover, critical information about the data center was only available through handwritten records, making it difficult to obtain accurate business intelligence analytics. To address these challenges, Busan Bank required an innovative solution to help balance operational business costs with the requirements of maintaining data center availability and efficiency.

Increasing operational efficiency with StruxureWare for Data Centers
Schneider Electric performed a thorough infrastructure audit and determined that StruxureWare for Data Centers software would deliver the availability and cost savings necessary to achieve highly optimized and energy-efficient infrastructure.The software was deployed to enhance visibility of assets, inventory, and available space and capacity across the data center. Now, Busan Bank can increase operational efficiency by minimizing duplicated tasks across departments and shorten go–to-market lead time required to support business initiatives — all while maintaining optimal data center performance.

Enhanced infrastructure design for long-term energy efficiency
With the broad capabilities of StruxureWare for Data Centers, Busan Bank is empowered to manage the entire data center life cycle, provisioning, and retiring data center equipment as well as tracking equipment moves, additions, and changes. Infrastructure design for long-term energy efficiency will improve through rack standardization, cooling management, and power monitoring.

Best of all, by adopting Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and optimization approaches such as right-sizing data center equipment for energy efficiency, implementing an InRow cooling system, and adjusting floor layout, Busan Bank now has the potential to achieve a PUE of 1.8 and up to 600 million KRW ($587,000) in cost savings.2
